Steel Shots and Grits:
Steel shots and grits refers to any small fragments or grains made out of a hardened material (usually steel). These abrasive particles are used in shot blasting and grinding applications to rough up metal surfaces and remove rust, paint, coatings, scale and other unwanted layers.
Steel Shot is sometimes called steel grit or alloy shot depending on its composition. The range of sizes available covers anything from fine powders down to big chunks almost 1/2 in diameter! Most people think that steel shots are simply tiny pieces of steel, but that’s not true at all.
They actually come in different forms such as spherical balls, flakes, rings and spirals. Sometimes they even have high-carbon additives which make them very hard materials that can cut through thick metals like butter.

Uses and Applications of Steel Shots and Grits:
While steel abrasives are used in a range of industrial applications, two major markets for steel abrasive products are found in manufacturing and mining. In manufacturing, steel shot is frequently used for surface preparation purposes before painting or welding. Grit is applied as a cutting tool to grind down and/or remove unwanted sections from metal surfaces.
For example, grinder bits may use grit to provide cutting power. Steel grit may also be used on razors or knives to sharpen their edges. In addition, steel shots and grits are often used to polish metals that have been coated with paint or other coatings.
The final application of steel shots and grits is in mining operations where they are used as proppants—i.e., materials that prop open fissures in rock during drilling operations.

Manufacturing Process of Steel Shots and Grits:
In general there are two ways for making steel shots and steel grits - indirect method via cooled blast furnace slag and direct method via direct remelting. In indirect method ore is purified by removing heavy material through screening, magnetic separation, crushing and grinding processes;
Next carbon content of ore should be reduced by either blowing air into ore in furnace or coke calcination which makes it brittle enough to crush easily into small pieces. Then molten pig iron is made from ore in blast furnace. In direct method molten pig iron can directly be used as feedstock for steel shot and grits manufacturing.

The advantage of using molten pig iron as feedstock instead of raw materials such as iron ore, coking coal and limestone lies in that all impurities will have been burnt out during melting process so that no purification process needs to be carried out before making metal shapes.
There are mainly two ways for producing steel shots and grits - by continuous casting machine or by ball milling. In continuous casting machine molten pig iron is poured into water which makes it into slurry;
Then it is transferred to a water-cooled mold where it solidifies into a semi-finished product; next semi-finished products are cooled down in water again then cutted up with saw or wire saw machine. Steel shots and grits can be produced by ball milling as well.

Benefits of Starting Steel Shots and Grits Production Business:
Steel shots and grits are widely used in a variety of industries, thus the benefits of launching this firm are numerous. They can be used for abrasive blasting, cutlery (steel shot), building, and metallurgical refractory materials, among other things. Their versatility makes them a good investment for anyone wishing to start a business producing these items.
Even with the present price swings, steel is still one of the most regularly utilised metals in manufacturing operations. This means that no matter how much or how little volatility there is on any given day, you'll still have a steady stream of consumers that require your services.
